About Hanshew

  • Hanshew Middle School is situated in South ºÚ¶´ÉçÇø at the foot of the Chugach Mountains and is attended by more than 800 students in grades 6-8. Hanshew is home to a richly diverse population of students who soar to heights of excellence in all aspects of life!

     

    The school community is focused on academic excellence.  We are dedicated to providing a supportive environment where students will learn and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and ethics necessary to become successful members of society. Our school focuses on intentionally structuring a caring, positive learning environment with high expectations for academic achievement.

    We serve sixth, seventh and eighth grade students through an academically challenging curriculum. In addition to core areas of instruction, we strive to support every student's academic, behavioral, and social and emotional needs through our Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) model. Hanshew purposefully offers a rich selection of electives for student engagement which include Band, Orchestra, Choir, Art, and Spanish. We also strive to empower students by teaching them leadership skills in classes such as Student Government and School Business Partnerships to name a few. Lastly, our CTE and STEM courses of Applied Technology, Project Lead the Way Computer Science Innovators and Makers, Business Education, and Yearbook prepare our students to be competitive in the 21st century.
